David's Military Victories

8
Chapter 8
1 After this, David struck the Philistines and subdued them. David took the bridle of the mother from the hand of the Philistines. 2 He struck Moab and measured them with a cord, laying them down on the ground. He measured two cords to put to death and the full cord to keep alive. And the Moabites became servants to David, bearers of offering. 3 David struck Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah, when he went to restore his control at the Euphrates River. 4 David captured from him 1,700 horsemen and 20,000 foot soldiers, and David hamstrung all the chariot teams but left enough for a hundred chariots. 5 When the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand Arameans. 6 David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became servants to David, bringing tribute. And the LORD saved David wherever he went. 7 David took the gold shields that were on Hadadezer’s servants and brought them to Jerusalem. 8 From Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took a very large amount of bronze. 9 When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had struck down all the army of Hadadezer, 10 Toi sent Joram his son to King David to ask about his peace and to bless him, because he had fought Hadadezer and struck him down—for Hadadezer was a man of warfare with Toi. In his hand were vessels of silver, vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze. 11 King David also consecrated them to the LORD, along with the silver and gold that he consecrated from all the nations that he subdued. 12 from Aram, from Moab, from the sons of Amon, from the Philistines, from Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer son of Rehob king of Zobah. 13 He made a name for himself there when he returned from striking down the Arameans in the Valley of Salt—eighteen thousand. 14 He put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all Edom became servants to David. The LORD saved David wherever he went.
